Broadly speaking, forest bathing or shinrin-yoku is taking in, through all of one’s senses, the forest atmosphere. Studies show immersion in forests improves health, and we are grateful to live, work, and play in one of the world’s most magical destinations: the Pacific Redwood Forest. Our team can provide resources for learning about forest bathing, lead guided meditations, or suggest hiking paths for you to explore independently.
Forest bathing or forest therapy is scientifically proven to improve your health. In the 1990s, researchers began studying the physiological benefits of forest bathing, providing the science to support what we innately know: time spent immersed in nature is good for us. It is proven to reduce stress hormone production, improve feelings of happiness and free up creativity, as well as lower heart rate and blood pressure, boost the immune system and accelerate recovery from illness.
The purpose was twofold: to offer an eco-antidote to tech-boom burnout and to inspire residents to reconnect with and protect the country’s forests.
The forest has its own way of healing our physical bodies. Allow the birds chirping in the background to put you in a meditative mood as you breathe in the scents of nature and foster your inner state of calmness as you explore and enjoy the tranquility of the NewTree Ranch’s Redwood forest.
