From a young age, I, Edward Newell, found joy in creating experiences for others. I can vividly recall my early fascination with hospitality—a passion that would eventually shape my life and lead to the creation of NewTree Ranch, a sanctuary of luxury and harmony nestled near Healdsburg.

 

A Childhood Rooted in Service

As a child, I often found myself in the kitchen, tasked by my mother to fix the soup. Without formal knowledge, I instinctively selected herbs from the cabinet, guided only by their aroma, crafting flavors that my mom would describe as “perfect.” By the age of seven, I was hosting childhood friends, serving meals on my mom’s finest china. On family motorhome trips, I delighted in preparing hors d’oeuvres and even mixing cocktails for the adults (a practice that might raise eyebrows today). These experiences nurtured my love for hospitality and the joy of creating moments of connection.

 

From Culinary Aspirations to Luxury Hospitality

This passion led me to the Culinary Institute of America, where I honed my skills before embarking on a diverse career in hotels, catering, and eventually furniture manufacturing for the hospitality industry. My work took me around the globe, exposing me to some of the world’s most exquisite hotels, including Montage, Four Seasons, and other exclusive resorts. These experiences deepened my appreciation for luxury and the art of creating unforgettable stays.

 

Seeking Personal and Intimate Experiences

Over time, I yearned for something more personal than even the finest hotels could offer. I turned to luxury vacation clubs like Inspirato and Exclusive Resorts, as well as renting private homes through brands like Four Seasons. These experiences combined five-star service with the intimacy of a home, allowing me to cherish time with family and friends without the distractions of traditional hotels.

However, I often found the services and amenities—particularly the kitchens—lacking in these high-end rentals. My frustration with the inconsistency of quality inspired me to create something unparalleled: a place where every detail is meticulously curated, combining the finest global touches with the comforts of home.

The Birth of NewTree Ranch

NewTree Ranch was born from this vision. Set on 120 acres of stunning land just 10 minutes from Healdsburg and an hour and a half from San Francisco, it is more than a luxury retreat; it’s a holistic haven. Here, every element—from our organic food to sheets washed in pristine water—is crafted with care and precision.

Building NewTree Ranch also became a personal journey. After years of taking up to 16 flights a month, I found peace and purpose in connecting with nature. This process allowed me to integrate sustainable practices and holistic principles into every aspect of the ranch. Guests can enjoy the finest accommodations, savor produce grown on-site, and immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature.
